About Rhythm of Being

Rhythm of Being is a coaching methodology focused on developing product leaders that JM developed as a result of his trainings with the Conscious Leadership Group and experience as a product leader at Uber & DoorDash. It is centered around the idea that in order to change or modify what you have in your life relative to what you want, you have to look closely at what you’re doing, as well as how you’re doing those things. Working backwards from the results and goals you want to achieve, we look at your rhythm of doing - how you’re managing your energy and time moment to moment, day to day, week to week. And then we look at your rhythm of being - how are you showing up for the meetings, tasks, relationships, and content of your life, both wanted and unwanted, expected and unexpected. Are you reacting to life and the people, circumstances, and conditions around you from fear, threat, and reactivity, or from presence, trust, and love?

Rhythm of Being is a combination of this work around context (how you’re being with the content of your life) and content focused on developing product leaders, based on JM’s experiences in product management and transitioning from IC to senior product leader. It’s a combination of coaching, mentoring, teaching, and advising targeted at product and tech leaders. Learn more about my coaching offerings here:

About JM

As a product leader with extensive experience – growing from Junior PM to Senior Director of Product at Uber and Doordash, I have learned that great product leaders incorporate world class processes and systems into their habits and rituals. In addition to my technical work, I have been training in conscious leadership and mindfulness practices for the past 7 years, and I received a 15 Commitments of Conscious Leadership coaching certification from CLG in 2018.

Testimonials

Rhythm of Being was transformative for me. Before RoB, I felt stuck. I had built a reputation of being high performing and conscientious but I was burned out and lacking the satisfaction I thought would accompany professional and personal success. Rhythm of Being gave me a framework for understanding myself and an approach for defining my purpose and my values. In a matter of sessions, I found myself shifting my focus and my energy to the challenges that inspired me and brought flow to my workday and my teams. I appreciated how JM helped me recognize my biases and develop strategies and routines for managing them. This brought me clarity in my relationships outside of work as well—I had new tactics for engaging with others with personal integrity and kindness.

Months after my last RoB session, I became a new parent. Having a child was an absolute blessing that absolutely wrecked my old way of life. When I was at a loss for how to stop mourning the end of one chapter and move forward with a new one, I sought out the tools from Rhythm of Being. The mindfulness practice we cultivated and the introspection we embraced helped me navigate the most difficult emotional terrain of my life.

I worked closely with JM for over 5 years at Uber and DoorDash and during that time went through many iterations of the Rhythm of Being program he designed. It was a truly transformative experience and I’m incredibly grateful for JM’s program.

The tools JM provides helped me become more reflective on what is truly important to me and who I am as a person, which shaped many of the principles for how I develop products and cultivate my free time. The Rhythm of Being process allowed me to focus my time and energy to where I can find the right flow state, bringing out my personal success and success of those around me, which has not only allowed me to grow as a manager but also operate life as a better human being. Even beyond the program, I’ve continued to leverage many of the tactics JM taught me, such as engaging in context over content conversations, to develop stronger relationships professionally and personally.
